Appointments
The surgery operates an appointment system. You can make an appointment by calling at the surgery or phoning reception on 0131 556 8842. The first available appointment will be offered to you. All appointments are for ten minutes. If you have several problems which you feel are likely to take up more time then please book a double appointment. If you cannot keep your appointment, please try to let us know as soon as possible.
We operate a "Duty Doctor" system, so that a named doctor is available every day to deal with urgent medical problems that cannot wait for a booked appointment. This may not be your regular doctor, but feedback suggests that patients are generally happy to see any doctor when the problem is urgent. The Duty Doctor is also available for telephone advice and emergency house call requests.
You can book appointments in advance for the doctor of your choice. In addition the doctors offer some telephone consultations each day, so that if you have a simple problem or question, or need to discuss progress of a certain condition or medication, you may prefer to choose a telephone consultation, where the doctor will call you at a pre-booked time.
In response to feedback from patients we are currently changing our appointments system so that half our daily appointments are pre-bookable and the rest are bookable on the day.
We continue to offer home visits for the very elderly and frail, terminally ill and those who are house bound. We would ask that requests for house calls be placed by 9am whenever possible.
We also offer evening appointments on selected days.
We are grateful for your comments on our appointment system.
Group Practice
Eyre Medical Practice is a group practice. This means that you as the patient can choose to consult with any of the doctors working here and you are not restricted to having to see only one doctor.
If you are consulting regarding an ongoing problem, or where it is important to you that you see a doctor who knows you, then clearly we would encourage you to try to make appointments with whichever doctor you feel most able to help you, and try to see the same doctor where possible.
If, however, your problem is an urgent one that cannot wait for an appointment with your usual doctor, or where the problem does not need significant personal background knowledge, you can see any of the doctors available.
Home Visits
If you require a Home Visit, please telephone with the details to the surgery before 9am. Only request a Home Visit when you are too ill to attend the surgery or if you are very elderly and frail, terminally ill or housebound.
Looking after your health...
